ABOUT
eMotion is an explorative and process-focused thesis that has evolved throughout its year-long development. Beginning as a strictly ‘create everyday’ project, it slowly developed into exploring how human emotions are affected by various formal choices in visual media. The constant in all of these pieces being transmuted was a rough interpretation of Edward Muybridge’s “The Horse in Motion” from 1878. The ideas of rhythm, sequence, color, visual composition, and pattern were then examined closely within abstract and strange pieces through different forms of print, animation, and videography. Eliciting a spectrum of positive or negative emotional responses was the overall aim for me in this body of work, however some resulted in neutral/puzzled emotions. Taking the initial results from my respondents, I further developed select pieces to try shift the immediate emotional response towards positive upon a second questionnaire being distributed. To elicit a positive emotional response within visual media has always been a strong goal of mine, whether to help viewers understand the piece more, or simply just to spread smiles and joy through artistic experiences.
